Western PRISM News
| Mile-a-Minute Vine |
Mile-a-Minute Vine (Polygonum perfoliatum) was confirmed on private property in Olean, NY, near the confluence of Olean Creek and Allegany River. This was a good example of Early Detection/Rapid Response: a NYSDEC forester confirmed the presence and initiated removal of the plant and seed pods. Naja Kraus (DEC Lands and Forests) and Melissa Bravo (PA Dept. of Agriculture) provided background information and fact sheets. NYSDEC Region 9 will survey for other occurrences in the vicinity. This offers a potential opportunity for WNY PRISM members to support additional survey activities |

| Water Chestnut |
A new occurrence of water chestnut (Trapa natans) has been discovered in the Tonawanda Creek portion of the NYS Canal System in Amherst, NY. WNY PRISM will be collaborating with USFWS for a water chestnut pull in June (Date TBD).
